The Shoelace Factory began 21 years ago at The City Museum in downtown St. Louis. Starting as a hoppy, owner Mike Killian fell in love with old braiding machines from the 1800’s. He put them on display at the museum but before long, his hobby became a business. Mostly a labor of love, The Shoelace factory has been operated by family members including: nieces, sister and sister in law, family friends and his late parents, Lee and Joan Killian.

In addition to quality shoelaces, The Shoelace factory also makes various products from shoelaces including key rings, hair bands, jump robes and more. Original hand made leather bracelets and necklaces as well as hand painted jewelry are also made here.

The shoelace factory prides itself on creating all laces, cord and string on one of their antique machines. Visitors can watch shoelaces being made at one of their two locations, The City Museum and now at 205 N Kirkwood Rd, Kirkwood MO.
